A Cheap and Easy DIY...

Heyo!

It's time for a DIY project! Now, if you know me at all in real life, you know that I love crafts and projects (I have a knitting basket under my coffee table. I promise I'm only 23.) and that I also love to decorate (and redecorate) my house. DIY home decor projects? BEST THING EVER. Most recently, I did a makeover with an old canvas I had hanging in my hall.

For a full how-to (with pictures!), read on...

I started out with a cheap-o canvas from Target with a not-so-cute floral design on it
and I added this:

and did this:.

And then I left it alone for a few hours so it could dry. Once it was, I took some of this:

and some ivory acrylic paint (that I forgot to take a picture of...) and did this:

Then I left it alone for a while again (I left it overnight, but it should be dry in about a half hour).
When I came back, I took the tape off and it looked like this:

I added some more tape and some black acrylic paint, like this:

.

When everything was dry, I took the tape off and it looked like this:

.

Then I hung it up in the stairwell and stuck a vase of fake flowers in front of it.

Voila!

Super easy, super cheap. Since I had the canvas and tape already, my only cost was the paint (under $10).

A few tips...
-When you tape off the canvas, make sure the distance between pieces is equal when you're making stripes. (If there's an inch and a half between two pieces of tape on the left side of the canvas, make sure it's an inch and a half apart on the right side.) If you make sure everything you tape is measured correctly, everything that's supposed to be parallel will be.
-Don't spray paint inside your house. It's really bad for your air filter and your lungs. Also, if you don't open the windows you'll kind of hot box yourself.
